Main Cast of "Cactus Creek"
For my birthday this year, my wife Becky, surprised me by submitting my photograph (in costume) to be an extra in a movie called "Cactus Creek" that was being filmed just outside of town in a reconstructed western town that is currently used as a tourist attraction. I was notified that I made the first cut and went for my final interview - in full costume of course. I was immediately hired and asked to report to the set on Monday morning. "Cactus Creek" is a family western-the fifth in a series-made by Skeleton Creek Productions. The movie's stars are Rick and Larry Simpson, with western actor Buck Taylor (you may remember him from "Gunsmoke", "Tombstone" and "The Alamo") joining the cast for this production.
I had no idea what fun was in store for me! I had briefly watched the filming of a scene in "The Dutchess and the Dirtwater Fox", but have never spent all day for a couple of days on the set. It is amazing to watch and one has to wonder how they put all those clips between the "Cut!" shouts together to make a movie.
Buck Taylor has been one of my favorite actors since the old "Gunsmoke" days. Honestly, in person he is just as congenial, polite and kind as he always was in the series. Buck is also a very talented artist of western scenes and clips from his movies. It fulfilled one of my lifelong dreams to work in the same movie with him.
All-in-all, this was one of the best experiences of my life!
